Let's explore Acrylic

Welcome to the world of acrylic paint. For 6 days, we will explore how versatile and lively acrylic paint is. Known for its thicker consistency and quick-drying properties, acrylic paint adheres to most surfaces, such as fabric, wood, glass, plastic, and stone. This means you can paint in many different ways with it. Are you ready? Let's start this colourful adventure!

Day 24

Firstly, Merry Christmas! December 24th has arrived, and we hope you've enjoyed the lead-up to Christmas Eve. During these days, you've had the chance to try out four different techniques and a variety of products. Perhaps you've discovered something new, or maybe even found a technique you'd like to explore further in the coming year.

To wrap up the first 24 days of December, here's this year's last challenge. Let's create our own Christmas cards to jointly usher in the holiday season.

Day 23

Acrylic paint

In today's door, you'll find a tube of acrylic paint. Acrylic paint is a water-based type of paint, renowned for its phenomenal property of drying very quickly. Due to its short drying time, acrylic paint is easy to work with, making it an ideal medium for hobbyists, children, and professional. Once the paint has dried, it also becomes water-resistant, allowing for painting layer upon layer, without the colours mixing. However, while the paints are still wet, you can blend your own shades as you like. You can also dilute the paint with water for a looser consistency or increased transparency.

Acrylic is a popular choice of paint, as it is both easy to work with and incredibly versatile. It is used in a wide range of applications, from traditional canvas painting, to put new colour on old ceramic pots or glas vases that have become worn over the years. Thanks to its opaque quality, it also shows up well on dark surfaces, which is a very useful attribute.

Day 22

Syntetic Brush

Today's door reveals a brush from Daler-Rowney, named Graduate Synthetic Brush. It's a wonderful quality brush to help you create professional artwork without worrying about the price tag. The range is available in several different sizes so you can always find the size you need for your project. The brush's size is indicated on the handle, and yours is a size 4. It's an perfect tool for fine details and also provides even colour spread. The shape and size of the handle of the brush gives excellent balance and comfort, making it perfect for beginners, students, and hobby artists. Besides being ideal for acrylic painting, it's also suitable for watercolour and oil painting.

The benefit of using brushes with synthetic hair is that they do not leave prints in the colour, and that they are more durable than brushes with a thinner hair. Synthetic brushes can manage the heaviness of the acrylic paint, which is important and will make your painting technique much easier.

Day 21

Acrylic marker

In today's door, you will find another acrylic marker so that we can experience perhaps the two most outstanding features of the acrylic marker. The colour dries quickly, which allows for faster work processes and layer-upon-layer techniques without long waiting times. Its rapid drying time enables artists to quickly correct and build upon their works, offering a flexibility that is rarely found in other painting mediums.

Another prominent characteristic is the ability to adhere to a variety of surfaces. You are not limited to traditional canvases or paper; it can also be applied to wood, glass, and even metal. Try it out!

Day 20

Acrylic Marker

In today's door, we have an acrylic marker with dual tips, a versatile and really fun pen. The marker has two tips: a broad tip on one side for powerful, sweeping strokes, and a fine tip on the other for delicate, detailed lines. The pen contains a full-coverage colour. Unlike acrylic paint in tubes, acrylic markers give you a completely different level of control. An acrylic pen is also perfect if you want to add small details to a larger painting.

Before you start using your new acrylic marker, there's an important step to activate it. Begin by shaking the pen with the cap on. This ensures that the paint is well mixed and ready for use. After shaking the pen, take a piece of scrap paper and start pumping the paint into the tip. Make sure to press the tip firmly against the paper. Initially, it might take some time for the paint to flow down, but continue pressing the tip until you see it starting to get coloured. Once the colour is activated, the pen is ready to be used for creating artwork.

Day 19

Acrylic Pad

When it comes to acrylic paint, two common surfaces to paint on are acrylic paper or canvas. In today's dorr, you'll find an A6 pad filled with 170 gsm paper. The important thing to consider when choosing paper is to select one with a high gsm, meaning a thicker paper, that can hold the paint without buckling or being damaged.Paper specifically designed for acrylic paint or a mixed-media pad is preferable, as both the weight and surface are tailored to ensure the best possible painting outcome.

Acrylic paper is available in various weights and textures, allowing artists to experiment with different styles and techniques. Experiment and discover which types of paper best suit your needs.

In the last six door of the calendar, we will explore acrylic paint in various forms. Use this pad to try out the products.
