Let's explore Sketching
For six days, we will explore sketching, a simple yet powerful technique. Sketching is a form of drawing that is typically done quickly and with relatively simple strokes. It's often used as a preliminary tool to visualize ideas, experiment with compositions, or plan out more detailed works. It is an effective way to test one or more ideas before deciding on the subject you want to refine.
Sketching is a playful and dynamic process, and you never really know what the end result will be.

18th December and Christmas is drawing near. Over the past few days, we have explored various products that are common in sketching. We've tried sketching with charcoal pencils, using a blending stump for shading, and utilised kneaded erasers to add light areas as well as correct mistakes, and experimented with pastel pencils. Hope you enjoyed the art of sketching.

Soft Pastel pencils
New day new pencils! In today's door, you'll find three pastel pastel pencils. Much like pastel crayons, these pens can easily be smudged to create beautiful colour transitions and complement graphite pencils perfectly. They are ideal for sketching and drawing, leaving a soft imprint that can easily be erased. The three tones you got is sepia + sanguine + white.
Kneadable Eraser
Time to knead! In today's door, you will find a kneaded eraser. Perhaps the best type of eraser you can have when sketching. Unlike traditional erasers, a kneaded eraser is malleable and extremely adaptable, making it ideal for precision work and cleaning small details in drawings.
This type of eraser can be shaped, stretched, and twisted to suit the specific needs of your artwork. You can pinch and shape the kneaded eraser into a point to remove small, unwanted marks, or press and flatten it to lighten larger areas. This makes the kneaded eraser particularly effective for creating highlights or softening transitions in charcoal, graphite, or pastel drawings. Moreover, a kneaded eraser does not leave any small crumbs behind, keeping your work area clean and tidy.
Paper stump
Avoid messy fingers! In today's door, we have a Paper Stump, also known as a blending stump. It's an essential tool for those involved in drawing and sketching. This simple, yet effective accessory is designed to help create soft transitions in mediums such as charcoal, graphite, and pastel.
Stumps are typically made of tightly rolled paper. To use a stump, hold it like a regular pencil and work with light movements. You can adjust the pressure to control how much of the medium is smudged or blended. Use the tip for working on a small area, and tilt the stump when you want to soften larger sections.
When it comes to cleaning a stump, use fine sandpaper to gently sand away the dirty surface. Then the tip is as good as new.
Charcoal pencil + graphite pencil
Today's door offers two really fun pencils, a charcoal pencil and a graphite pencil.
Charcoal pencils are known for their deep, rich blackness and their ability to create both sharp lines and soft shadings. They are particularly appreciated in sketching and drawing, where their versatility really shines. A charcoal pencil can be used to create dramatic effects by varying the pressure on the paper, resulting in different shades of grey and black.
The graphite pencil is characterised by its ability to produce a smooth and deep black line. It allows you to create a wide spectrum of tones, from the lightest greys to the deepest blacks, simply by adjusting the pressure on the paper. Unlike charcoal pencils, graphite pencils offer greater precision and control. Since you can draw with the entire tip, you can get really wide, soft lines by tilting the pencil against the paper. Use your fingertips to smudge the colour and create soft transitions.
Paper for Sketching
Just like lettering, it's a good idea to start practising on simpler, basic paper, as you will use a lot of sheets during your exercises. 70g / 80g papers are often more economical beneficial, as you get more sheets for the money, allowing you to practise as much as you want. It also allows you to transfer sketches, from one paper to another, since they are semi-transparent. However, if you plan to draw something that will also turn into the end result, you will probably prefer a paper pad with thicker, more stable, paper.
